Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have been taking lessons from another Pro, I like taking lessons from him/her, but am interested in taking a 3D biomechanical lesson from you?
We realize that there are many good instructors in our area. We can simply do the 3D biomechanical evaluation, give you the reports and analysis, and let your pro do the rest. In addition, we would be happy to call them on your behalf with our suggestions. He/She is welcome to accompany you during the lesson. In that way, we are a complimentary service. One of the most important things about taking golf lessons is that you like taking instruction from that person. So, do not “hop” around from pro to pro.

All this technology stuff is confusing. Does it make a difference? What about the “good old days”, when I could just read a golf magazine or get a “tip” from my friend and start to play better?
There can be a lot of information to digest. That is our job. We sift through all the information, find one or two things that will really help you improve, explain it to you, and help coach you through the changes. The only way to accurately measure the kinetic link, for example, is through 3D biomechanical analysis. You will not be able to obtain accurate and non-latent information about your kinetic link from a magazine, “tip” sheet, or even 2D video. In addition, from sports science research, it is now well recognized that this linking of body segments is one of the most important features of an efficient and powerful golf swing.

Is all this fancy technology going to cost me a lot?
Simple answer, NO. Compare our rates with similar services at some other golf training centers. Most biomechanics lessons cost anywhere from $150 to several thousand dollars across the country. Moreover, our 3D systems are the same ones used at many of these facilities. Our 3D systems are also portable. Many 3D systems are not. So we can conduct full swing and short game lessons on the course or the practice range. Very few of these facilities, unlike ours, allow you to come back and practice using the 3D system.

Will I get better and lower my scores?
Short answer, YES. However, you must follow the program we chart together. If you do not follow the map, you will end up in the wrong city!

Why an indoor facility?
Although our labs are portable and can be used outside, our measurements will be less susceptible to Western/Central New York weather in a controlled environment. However, training for our students will also be available outdoors.

Is 3D a replacement for 2D video?
Yes and No. 3D is more accurate in measuring how you move and transfer energy in your swing. The reports and analysis possible with 3D are also much more detailed than 2D. We can also “see” your swing from any angle with 3D. We are more limited with 2D video, although it is always helpful to see your swing in a non-animated format. 3D is complementary to 2D video, but goes far beyond it technologically.

I am just a beginner. 3D motion analysis sounds like it is more than I need.
Not necessarily. Many times I have seen 3D motion analysis benefit beginners to intermediate golfers more than advanced players. 3D helps you become more aware of how your body should properly move in a golf swing. We are also more likely “to catch” physical imbalances / weaknesses before you develop bad habits. With advanced players, they already have pretty good body motion awareness. Or, at least, they have “practiced” their idiosyncrasies so many times that their swing has become repeatable and consistent. The problem with poor biomechanics, however, is that even the advanced player is more susceptible to injury.
